Default All quad sphere

Is there a way to create a quad sphere in AC3D? This sphere I downloaded from turbosquid, but it would be nice to be able to make one in the resolution you want, and subdivide up instead.
A quadsphere gives much better finish at the poles when subdivided than the standard sphere in AC3D.
Is it possible to have an option of making a quadsphere as well in AC3D in later versions Andy? Or is it not possible to code something like that all the time there isnt an option already?

A cube can be subdivided using Object>Subdivide + three or four times, then commit the subdivision, and size the resulting mesh to the required diameter of the sphere. This gives a reasonable representation of a quad sphere, but, using a circle of the same diameter as the required sphere as a backdrop, it can be seen that the result is not too spherical in way of the areas corresponding to the original cube edges, but the discrepancy may not be so significant to be noticable. Increasing the subdivision level does not appear to help much.

For comparison, I made a quad sphere in Blender by subdividing a cube four times, then using Blender's "to sphere" option (shift-alt-S) with a factor of 1, then imported to AC3D as a OBJ file. This also showed a similar non-sphericalness, compared with the circle backdrop.

Like Ken said: make a cube, subdivide, commit subdivisions.

It's an interesting request to have it as a default object but some kind of "spherize" function might be more use.

Yes,I tried that, and a subdivided cube would make almost a sphere, but just almost. Its not quite spherical, and thats not good enough Maybe a "spherize" function as you Andy say would be the thing if thats doable.

I should be continuing with the Cocoa port of AC3D, but this was more fun...

Try this plugin (Windows AC3D 7.5.02 only) - put the spherize.p in the plugins folder and it will add a "Spherize vertices" item to the main tools menu:

www.inivis.com/external/spherizeWIN7502.zip

Try it on any Block and you'll have your quad sphere .

Also try selecting parts of objects, multiple objects or perhaps a sphere and a single vertex outside it - you can get some great distortion. Can also be used to make round holes in objects.

Please let me know if it works, I think this would be useful for others.
