Default Divide Surfaces

How can I force the division of surfaces to rectangles? Sometimes polygones are generated, sometimes rectangles.
Thank you for a hint!
Uli Werner

I wish an existing rectangle, of course, being devided in several smaller rectangles.

If I remember correctly, rectangles are subdivised into rectangles.
Just be sure that your rectangles are actually real quads > 4 vertices only

Not always... I sometimes see funky divisions from what would seem to be a straightforward poly. When that happens, the best course is to just delete the computer-created poly and create a new one, selecting the vertices in the clockwise order that will produce what you want.
