Default Scaling objects and object group

I made the landing gear and scaled it to the aircraft. Now I have managed to get the cockpit done but it is around 4 times the correct size when I bring it into Xplane. for whatever reason, i can't seem to get it to scale down to the right size.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

X-Plane objects use metric units. 1 unit in AC3D = 1 meter.

ok, but now that I have the cockpit complete, how can I make it 1/4 of the scale it was made in so as to fit it inside the fuselage? I can't seem to find any means of doing this from Planemaker or AC3D.....

in AC3D, select all, scale to 25% and export it again

That is, make sure to scale to 25% in ALL AXES.... you can scale independently on one, two, or all three axes.

I usually import the nose section of the X-Plane model as a reference.
You can simply hide the reference parts before exporting your cockpit.
Also make sure to put transparent parts to the bottom in the object hierarchy before export.
(e.g. cockpit windows go last if you want to see the interior from outside)

This has to do with drawing order in the sim.

AHA, partial success. My problem was housekeeping. an earlier attempt had the huge cockpit blocking views of the properly scaled version. I have the properly scaled version in the aircraft, it's not centered and is low. In the object adjust controls, i am tweaking the position, but it's not moving.

You do know that 'attached object' position and 'cockpit object' position are adjusted on a different Planemaker screen? (if at all....I strongly suggest getting it right in AC3D leaving the offsets in Planemaker at x=0/y=0/z=0)

Sigh, i see your point. It seems like the only way to get it adjusted, Just hoping for an easy fix.

ok, clearly I am missing something.

As per your advice, I placed screenshots of the aircraft itself as backgrounds in AC3D (very easy to do as I found out) then scaled, tweaked and aligned the cockpit to fit the aircraft. I got it looking exactly as it should, then export/saved.
When I go back to planemaker (with the positioning at 0,0,0,) I have a perfectly scaled and oriented cockpit it sitting about 3 metres in front of the plane.

Sorry to be such a pain about all this. It's probably something simple I am overlooking but I am scratching my head to the point of getting splinters.
