Default Heightmap Importer.

[UPDATE] 12/06/2004

Heres my Heightmap Importer beta2 version.
(standard Importer plugin, .bmp files)

http://www.geocities.com/witte2008/G...Map_Import.zip

still need to tweak some things, but its pretty much all there.
i recomend using pictures from 32x32 to 256X256 as it is vertex-per-texture pixel.

(it runs much, much, faster than the first one.)

let me know if you have any problems.

I tried the height field importer with a bmp image that I made from a SRTM GeoTiff.

The imput comes from:
http://glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/data/srtm/
SRTM 3 arc seconds tiles - 3 arcseconds means points 90 meters apart on equator ?
The tiles are 1200 by 1200 big. Looked at a tile of Holland (52 north 4 east) with 3Dem. A lot of (missing) data to be patched and much distortion over the North Sea (-2 mtr to 2 mtr) and cities(buildings).
Exported from 3Dem to .TXT format to read the values: decimeters elevation.

AC3D (.PF import) and 3DS max v 6 (USGS .DEM import) both stop showing any sign of life. 100 % CPU load for a long time.

Cut the GeoTiff up with Photoshop CS trial version into 36 pieces of 200 by 200. Saved them for web and converted only one sample out of the 36 pieces to BMP.

Imported with height field .BMP import into AC3D. Result 200 by 200 points on a size of 8 by 8 with elevation of 1. Hmm something has gone wrong.

im not understanding what your saying is wrong with the plugin.

the plugin will always make an 8x8x1 demensions of points.
the amount of points depends on your image size.

of course im always trying to make it better, so if youd like me to change somthing, id be happy to here you suggestion.

(im still fooling around with this plugin)
