Possibility to make objects partially transparant so that you can see both when they overlap.

Use the materials setting, using two different materials for each overlaping object.

Thanks, but... I don't see the point in that, maybe my question wasn't clear. What I meant was a way to make an object that is inside another object visible , or if one object is behind another one in the viewport.

Two possible other ways,
one - lock the forground object and work on the background one or Switch off the textures, and turn on wireframe in views.

Do you mean something like making a car windshield that is transparent, and still being able to see the interior?
If so, you're right, AC3D has "special needs" when it comes to transparent object. That, namely, it renders the first items on it's object list first. So if you had a ball behind a wall, and made the wall transparent, AC3D would render the ball first, check to see if it was visible to the "camera", and since its behind the wall, would not render it (to save on processing power). It would then render the wall, see that its transparent, and make it see through. But since it already blocked out the ball, you can't see it. The fix is to go into your object list and make sure anything transparent is the first thing on the list, so it will render first. Then, anything that renders after that will show through.

no, I'm not talking about a rendered scene. What I meant is a sort of working mode, like wireframe, but partially transparant/see-through so you can still see the hidden object while working on the other one. If you're familiar with ZBrush you'll know what I mean.
