Default Potential Battosai Class Fighter Refit

Alright, now that I'm improving my skills at subdivision, I'm toying with the notion of refitting my old Battosai Class Fighter model. I don't know whether I should pursue this variation or not. I'm welcome to any opinions on the new and old versions:
New:

Old:

Please, if you have any input on the design, good or otherwise, don't hold back!

Okay, I think I'll pursue this one. Here's what I've gotten so far. And woot for actually making details instead of just texturing them on!

She's pretty well finished. Don't know what else to do with her.

The overall design / textures / colors look cool.
The old low-polys version was cool too.
I can see some not that much rounded parts here and there in your subivided model ...
How many times did you perform a "subdivide+" on it ? 1 or 2 ?

Two or three actually XD
The non-subdivided surfaces were post-subdivision details; sensor arrays, retractable weapons emplacements, and hatches. I recolored some of the sensor panels so they looked less out of place, but I neglected to re-export the file as a new .obj for rendering.

Cool! You should do a scene with all your ships in it together. How many craft are in your armada?

Well, when it comes to ships of my creation alone:
Avenger Class (about ten ships, half of which were destroyed) - incomplete
Cambria Class (indetermineant number of science vessels) - incomplete
Newton Class - very incomplete
Pennsylvania Class - needs refitted
Verne Class - just a prelim
Type 27 Shuttle
Type 28 Shuttle
Battosai Class Fighter
Pteradon Shuttle - incomplete
I'm not sure what else I've got out there. Problem is, very little of what I do is completed.

Lol, I have the same problem. Once I learned whatever it was I was trying to get out of the model, unless I have a good reason to finish it, I don't. (Unless, of course, it's production work... that's different.)

Heh, yeah, unfortunately I'm never going to have the same kind of initiative to finish my models in terms of production work. Once I'm in college and take some drafting classes, I'll probably get better at making these things, though, so I might be able to make them look better. Half of the reason I don't finish them is because I'm easily disappointed by what I make, no matter what the medium. I like it at first, then go into a self-deprecating mode and start picking out every little flaw in everything. Hopefully that doesn't hurt my future job in aerospace engineering.

*Everybody* does that. In fact, you should take that as a *good* sign. The bad artists are the ones who think they are perfect; they can't tell anything's wrong! No one is ever perfect. The good artists are the ones who can spot the things they can do better, and then use that information to improve and grow.

The most important thing is to just stick with it. I'm sure you've heard that a billion times already, but it really is true. Keep doing it, keep making incremental improvements. There isn't an artist alive who doesn't wish they were better, pros included.

If you want to be a production artist, then why not? You shouldn't write yourself off on things like that.
