You should be able to find many low poly "character generation" tutorials online for a variety of 3D programs. In my travels I've seen a few for 3DMax.

The concepts are the same, even if the steps for using the features are a bit different.

If you're familiar with how to use AC3D's interface, then these might still help you, especially if you need to get ahold of this info NOW, rather than waiting for someone to build a tutorial for you that's AC3D-specific.

Can you be more specific inasfar as what kind of people/characters you want to make? Are you going for realistic, cartoonish, somewhere in between, etc?

Using your example above, what exactly would you like to improve?

Things along those lines.

Well, simply punching in "low poly character modeling" in Google brought up these links, among others...

Low Poly Character Modeling (Max)

Character Modeling (in tutorial section, 5 part tutorial)

Maybe that'll get you started...many of the tutorials were on box modeling to create heads (since heads and faces are the most challenging assignment), but some were of making entire characters.
