Default Small space fighter (Very much WIP)

This is my first attempt using AC3D so please be gentle also my first post so hello all.

This is a basic small inteceptor design which I may use in a game eventually. It is completely untextured at the moment and is quite low in the polygon scale.

The side pods are rotating engines (VTOL) however I have not created a front landing skid (yet). The weapons are currently just the 2 front holes (think missile launcher) however I may try to fashion somekind of laser to come out of it (depending on my skills improving alot with this)

Any way I will keep working on it and post any improvements I make.

ps After looking at some of the work others have done I know I have a long way to go but hopefully it will be a fun journey

Thanks tbh, however looking good? I asked you to be gentle not to blatently lie I have taken a look at your work, and man can you model. Can I ask how long you have been doing this kind of thing, and do you work or did your education cover this?

I will definately keep this uptodate with my progress, I will later tonight post a landed picture of the ship with a starting point of a landing strut.

The texturing is giving me a bit of bother, can't get my head around this UV mapping thing, but practice makes perfect

Not that many years. Dont remember when I started modeling, but it looked like crap as I recall . And its just a hobby, and I'm selflearned as well.

From an artistic point of view, I can't really say, I'm not that much into spaceships, but I suppose it's a good simple model.
From a technical point of view, I can't say much too, because you didn't post viewable wireframes (overlay).
Having a good looking model is one thing, having a well modeled one is another.

Ah right, thanks for that luucky, is the attached picture what you meant?

Also if anyone has suggestions about how to tidy up the model or improvements i could make, would love to hear about them

Yes jonto81 (you can get ride of the vertices, we don't need them ).

I like the way the "wings" (not sure about the term) are shaped.
But is the rounded part on top of the ship (with a blue/green material) entirely part of the body (in an object point of view) ?
If yes, then you have ... 8 or + sided surfaces here (I don't see the image when replying so not sure about the count). You should really really only use triangles (tris) or quads, no 5+ sided surfaces. This would ensure a proper geometry, and would avoid you some troubles in the future (importing your model into other apps ...).

Ok,

Fighter landed, note the engines rotated to the ground and landing foot deployed.

I have fitted a landing skid, deleted the greebles on the black wings(but kept the texture), and triangulated all the surfaces.

Other bits I have done as well - detached the canopy (black dome) so that I can make it tranparent, hollowed out an area to make into a cockpit, and cut a hole into the bottom and fitted doors for the landing foot/skid to fold up into.

Still looking good But you dont have to triangulate all the faces. I find it easyer to work with quads. Just triangulate what you need to get a clean shape. Something like this pic. Here I have just triangulated what I need.
