Default Rossco's Projects (all comments and tips welcome)

Hello all!

I FOUND IT!
I had AC3D on one of my computers years ago.
Couldnt think what it was called, although, got around to searching it out.
It has changed greatly! for the beter. Thanx to all involved.

This is a knock up of the first thing that was infront of me. (after quite a bit of playing around getting the "feel" for it again)

What do you think?

One thing that i cant seem to get the hang of, is running two serfaces together smoothly.
Like, on the pen (hopefully) bellow, the serface of the end, blue piece. I seem to always get that little white line where the angle changes.

Can someone please point me in the direction to avoid/solve this?
EDIT: no, doesnt show up in this ange. You know what im talking about?

Thanx
Rossco

Just had an insparation flash! "Remove original" when extruding.
That does the trick!

BUT, how do i fix it when its already there?

Example:
On the top pipe, i extruded with "Romove original" ON.
The bottom, with it off. Now, how do i remove these little lines when they are already there?

Just say so if its been answered.

EDIT: OK, got it hosted at http://www.photohosting.info/index.php now. Seems to be good, and links directly to the image, not advertising around a tiny little thumb.

Thanx

Cant see it but I'd guess theres an extra surface or two you need to remove.

Having another play tonight...

Some of the simplest things are harder to do than you first think!
This pencil was originaly just a project to study intersecting shapes in AC3D.
It was later coloured as a pencil because it very suddenly looked like one.
  • * I first extruded the hexagon, nothing special.
    * Divided vectors on the "sharpened" down end.
    * Made a circle with the same amount of vectors.
    * Extruded that to a point.
    * Lined them up over each other on axis, to give the line of intersection.
    * Individualy draged each vector of the hexagon back to the line of intersection, along one axis only, as not to distort the shape.
    * deleated the cone
    * selected the newly shaped end of the hexagon and extruded that to the same point of the previous triangle
    * Bang, pencil. Coloured to suit.
    * Jammed that UGLY tip/lead end on...

Tips needed!
Is there any way to do the intersection LESS time consumtivly (if thats a word)?
I banged my head many a time trying to "snap together" to achieve an automatic effect.... BUT, they need to end up in an exponantial curve... which is tricky!

And the coloured point! grr. Inserting verticies, then aligning to the axis to straighten them up produces a freekin hexagon again! (which is obviouse if you think about it) How do i make this a circle?
In the posted pic, i just stuck a coloured cone over the other... very slap dash ending to an otherwise good learning project!
I would like to have this on the same plane, if not a fraction less than the "wooden" section, to be realistic!

NEXT TIME,
I will do ONE surface of at least the hexagon first, this would have been smart! BUT by the end of six, i was prety good at it, and that was the idea.
Then rotate in six parts.
The tip and circular section could be solved in this method easier too.

And now i look at it... i will HAVE to indent HB or something into a surface! Finishing touches seem to make these things!

Till next one...
Rossco
