Exclamation Some help for a beginner, please?

I'm new to designing, and frankly I don't know how to do anything. I can model a little bit but I don't know where to start, how to animate, render, or even any techniques to model better. (I still don't know how to get any more polygons in my model, I'm struggling to model a 20-something polygon circle into a head..)

So any advice, or links to beginner tutorials or any other programs would be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. Why does 3dStudioMax cost 3,500 bucks? That's insane.

Hi ultracougar!

There are some AC3D tutorial movies you can find here:
http://www.inivis.com/tutorials.html

Also, the manual has a lot of stuff in it and is pretty well illustrated:
http://www.inivis.com/ac3d/download/ac3dman64.pdf

This is probably one of my favorite tutorials. It's very brief, but it really made some of the ideas "click" for me: (The tutorial is for Maya, but you can do exactly the same thing in AC3D)
http://www.3d.sk/tutorials/Modeling_a_foot_in_Maya.htm

This tutorial is also very popular:
http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials...c/joanmenu.asp

Everybody here has different methods they use when they model--if you dig around the forums you can see lots of the nifty things people have made. Personally, I like the "box modeling" method. You start with a cube, and keep slicing surfaces and extruding faces until you get the shape you are looking for. (like the foot tutorial I linked)

You can find 3rd party plugins for AC3D here:
http://supercoldmilk.com/ac3dplug/index.html

And also here:
http://www.independentdeveloper.com/...ls_and_plugins

(A number of these already are included with AC3D, so check before downloading as the ones with AC3D are the ones you want when in doubt.)
