Lightbulb light settings in AC3D? how do i make a global illumination?

hello,

i was searching the forum up and down for light settings.
the only hints i found about global illumination were about external renderers - ok, i am a noob - but i need to bake the GI inside AC3D.

here is my problem:
i built a burger for Second Life, i textured it and set 3 lights in a triangle. i used "render to texture" to bake the light on the texture. the rendered textures have still hard shadows.

so my questions are:
is it trial and error to reach a nice global illumination/ambiant occlusion?
or can i change/edit the light somehow?
or do i need a lightdome?

i hope someone has an idea.
thanks

You can edit the light strength in the object properties. You can specify both an RGB color and an intensity. For example, entering "color 1.0 .5 .9 .4" would create a less intense, purplish light. There's more instructions in the readme that comes with the plugin.

The light in render-to-texture work effectively as area lights to achieve soft shadows. It's a monte carlo raytracer vs a GI solution, although GI is a good idea.

I've been using a 3-point setup with a single, relatively intense yellow light as the key light and very low-intensity blueish lights for rim and fill to minimize shadows; sometimes I omit the rim light entirely. Alternatively you can place your fill light very distant. The more distant the light, the more diffuse the rays.

There is some trial and error involved. I tune my lights one a time to get the effect I want.
