Default Making Holes

Hello I am somewhat of a newbie yet i have a question Is there a way to make a custom hole on an object or create a hole manually without having to go to Surface>Make hole? Thanks

Hi John,

A Boolean plugin should be ready with the next release.

It's possible to make objects with holes in using the current AC3D. It does require a slightly different way of thinking.

What kind of shape are you trying to make?

Nothing in particular.I was just wondering if there was a way to make a hole on an object by drawing you hole on the surface and not an automatic square.

You can use Vertex->create-convex-surface/object to make objects that have holes in.

e.g. to make a round hole in a box:

1) create a box
2) create a cylinder that extends though the box and comes out of opposite sides
3) select-all (in vertex select mode)
4) Vertex->create-convex-surface/object

Then you can remove the original box and remove the surfaces from the cylinder 'ends'. Finally flatten the vertices on the sides where the holes are (select the vertices at one end and resize to zero)

For more info on this function, see the section in the manual which demostrates making an aircraft fuselage.

Hope this helps,

Andy

well, I took the advice on this thread and after some tedious vertex alignments and osme experimentation (this is my first model) here is what I got..(a boolean function would be greatly appreciated Andy!!)

here is a very old tut I did to help some guys working on WW1 planes.

should help you out even though I left a few steps out line merging and snapping vertices.
