Default 3ds and ac3d for texturing (help)

I have tried googling this problem.
I have come here, and searched for a collective...long butt time lol. I have found to fix a few small things, however this is still the problem:

I made everything with ac3d when it comes to mapping . however for characters and animation, i go with 3ds max.

However, I texture with ac3d still, because 3ds texturing is....no where near as easy for me, and I do better with ac3d.

When I import a .3ds file from ac3d into 3ds max...there are problems.

the model is invis, and I learned to fix that by messing around by changing it to mesh/poly, although sometimes it goes haywire lol.

however, texturing does not come up. I know the texture has to be in the same file as the 3ds file, and its name cannot be long.

so far, for example.

I have my 3d folder on my desktop
in there, is replica
in there, is the .3ds model from ac3d (named test) and the texture (jpeg) named ba

did I miss a step or overlook something in 3ds max itself? or is this an error?
either way, any help would be great, because if I cant fix this...i will have to spend a long time trying to figure out how to texture with 3ds max...and put ac3d aside for months until I map again.

thank you.

I'm not sure what could be causing your problem, but what happens if you try transfering it to max as an obj instead?

I found a way to fix it.
change it to patch-->polly, then re upload the actual textures. It put it in the right placement.

however theres another problem...although i dont know if its ac3d or just 3ds max.

the textures dont seem as clear in 3ds max, they seem smaller and blured a bit...just like if you stretched it to far.
and thats what i think happened, the image was stretched on the model.

is there an option on 3ds max to fix this?

Try the viewport driver configuration, and see if it will let you change either the mipmap options or the filtering mode. I think you can also fiddle with the maximum texture resolution from there as well. If it looks fine when you render but bad when you preview, that's most likely the problem.

Hmmm... that I don't know, but maybe someone else might.

BVH is pretty much the "most standard" as far as animation formats go. Can you use that?

lol I feel like an idiot, I have no idea what bvh is. However it only takes b3d...you think 3ds->bvh can easily transfer to b3d?
