Default Modeling a project in Layers

re: Modeling a project in layers (as you do with Photoshop)

I'm wondering if it could be possible to have AC3D use layers, similar to the way Photoshop does texture layers.
As your model becomes more complex with more parts and polys, it becomes increasing difficult to manage the different parts.
Currently you can make objects disappear, but if you are working with an intricate model it would be very handy to be able to work on each piece of the model in a different layer and then combine them as needed.
Complex textures are produced from Photoshop using layers.

You could use object hierarchy and grouping. This works well for very complex models.
