Well I'm a newb so I guess any advice I have is the blind leading the blind. anyway

The first thing I would do if I was you is read the manual. It's not easy to just read something straight thru so to help it along you should have Ac3d open as you go thru it to help familiarize yourself with the layout of the tools and menu's.
After that try the basic tutorials(for reinforcement) then after that the car tutorial. By then you should be somewhat familiar with AC3D and some jargon, ask questions if you have them. And then try something on your own, and think small. If you take on something to complex you may get frustrated and discouraged.
Also remember the beginning is a very slow process, try to capture the basic shapes in whatever your building then mold it from their. As you feel more comfortable with the tools, andyour abilities challenge yourself, try something slightly harder. But it's a good idea to always have something else you can fall back on that's just fun. To avoid frustration, Save frequently.
