Default Linux AC3D on Acer laptop

fresh install of ubuntu 8.04 32bit and all updates.
didnt do anything funny this time.
ac3d 6.4 unzip ran it.
all plugins loaded.
problems :
default models lost colors.
and colors do not stick to all objects.
probly others.
6.2 with the way i installed it above worked better,i didnt have this problem and the only problem i seemed to have was "save 3D as png would crash ac3d.

have you tried running 'ac3ds' - this is the static library version. If 'ac3ds' works then the problems are in you graphics drivers.

Arrow Re: Running the Linux version of AC3D

ita an acer laptop with all intel stuff works right out of the box i dont need any drivers.
ac3ds is the only 1 i use.
it was working fine until 6.4
its also a fresh install .
its ac3d not my laptop.
acer 5610-4537, 2.5GB ram, intel gma 950 graphics. 256 shared video memory.
works fine on vista ,was working fine on ubuntu with the funny install 6.2.
all except the crash on save 3d win as png.
heres the command i run from terminal ./ac3ds
and i use this in a shell script, export AC3D_HOME=/home/tyjbr/ac3dlx && /home/tyjbr/ac3dlx/ac3ds
there are no restricted drivers for this laptop. compiz works right after install.
this is what i did, i reinstalled ubuntu 8.04 hardy basically just for ac3d to make sure it wasnt something with ubuntu.
installed all 200 some updates ,restarted, unziped ac3dlx ran the above commands.
theres really nothing more i can do. unless you know something i dont.
all the plugins load so its not that.
stumped.
ill post a video somewhere of what 6.4 is doing.
and ill even go back to 6.2 and show you that 6.2 didnt do this.
even record my whole ubuntu install if you got the time to watch it lol.
to sum it up better here gose.
i pick the penguin model load him up hes all grey except 1 wing is black.
the colors are there but you cant see them until your dragging around stuff. well only 2 faces on his body are black the rest are grey, but the rest of his body parts turn the right color when dragging.
same with spheres, i can make a sphere color it and sometimes 1 will take the color,if i make 2 the second sphere takes the color but is gray until im dragging it around and i see the color while dragging it,but as soon as i let it go it returns to gray.
boxes seem to color fine ,rose, penguin and a few other models are like this. the top of the rose is red but the stem is grey until i drag it around and green shows but when i stop dragging it ,it returns to grey....
6.2 didnt do that.

It looks like the image are OK when you are creating an object by dragging or moving/sizing an object - is that correct?

Can you send me a full-res dump of the AC3D window with a number of colored objects in it so I can analyze it?

Lightbulb Re: Linux AC3D on Acer laptop

I dont have linux on my laptop anymore right now ,but I do plan on putting it back in.
The problem dose not seem to bad to probly fix somehow.
AC3D runs great on vista or xp on this thing and was working right with version 6.2 on linux.
I gave you a video ,Im not really sure what more you want me to do in the next video.
I was going to install ubuntu ,do all updates, dont need any drivers says there are no restriced drivers for this.
Then I guess I could do 6.2 the old install and show you that in the video working well.
Then do a 6.4 video and show in it pretty much the same thing Ive been saying.
The colors work but.. even though the object takes the color ,it dose not show it,until you move the object around then it lights up the right color, let it go and quit moving it it gose back to grey ,it dosent loose the color you just cant see it until moving the object.
It dose this with every sphere except the 1st sphere ,same with the flat mesh, squares and other objects seem fine and each one shows colors.
Not really sure why 6.4 dose this.
The reason I dont have linux on my laptop right now is because my vista is growing and Im going to try to put linux on a usb drive.
Just post or email a few things you would like me to do in the videos.
What buttons to hit ,files to play with .....ect.....
I did play with allot of buttons though I always do.

Exclamation Re: AC3D on ubuntu 8.04 hardy 64-32

Yo,I dont know if I said something stupid where you guys forgot about me, linux ,my laptop and ac3d 6.4, but I would like to know where to get the 6.2 linux version back again.Like an archive or something because.......
This is doing the same thing on my desktop pc :
Asus nforce 560 m2n-sli with:
amd phenom 9500 x4 2.21
4 gigs of fast ram
1 gig sparkle 8500 gt nvidia
250 sats hdd
ubuntu 8.04 all updates drivers ect..... anything you want Ill show ,video pics ect anything...
and all I do is download ac3d 6.4 linux version unzip it and run ac3ds,open the penguin my 1st try and then see it all messed up and ac3d 6.4 still has the same problems as on the laptop.
So thats 2 pcs so far for me,do I got to do all 5 pcs and make videos and photos of them all.
Im using ubuntu 8.04 64/32 mail order cds ,200 some+ updates and the lastest nvidia drivers installed from the driver manager and everything except this ac3d 6.4 ,works perfect.
I did pay for this modeler and would like it to also work on linux perfect the way 6.2 used to.
For now I just use 6.4 on my vista's and xp's.
But I do use linux alot and want it also on that.
I would like 6.2 back so heres my email if someone knows where I can find it.
ttyy3131@yahoo.com
Man I wish I never tossed the 6.2 by mistake.
Thanks again.
And thanks in advance to anyone who can point me to the 6.2 linux version so I can re download it and just use it.
