So, I've been snowed in at home, so no work (hurray for salary positions and snow days). I'm playing WoW, but I'm camping a rare spawn for a mount, which is boring beyond description.
Hey, lets make a mesh to help kill time. Been wanting a base female I could work off of to make different characters out of, so I scoured the internet for some orthos and got something close enough to work with, and made this. I plan on adding hair and clothes of some sort next (after I finish the eyes), but I'm rather proud of how this one came out. It still amazes me how nice the automatic subdivision can make things look, especially considering how jagged an unappealing the unsubdivided base model for this thing is. Working poly count: 1,769 Subdivided poly count: 26,180

Sorry, work has gotten busy again, I'm in and out on my modelling as time permits, as usual, and haven't gotten anything else done yet (other than a few tweaks to forehead size and leg length to bring it back down towards more realistic proportions). This is the base model, the above mesh is with a x2 subdivision run on it. Thats how I model my characters, I get the basic start down (usually the calf of the leg) and hit a couple levels of subdivision and just do the rest in subdivide mode. I only go back down to the base mesh when I'm having to work with lining up specific vertices.

Had a little time to at least get the eyes done(r).
Thing is, now I'm smack dab in the middle of the uncanny valley, and that drives me nuts. I may have to just scrap this head entirely and sculpt one off an actual model instead of just freehanding it.

I'm using the age old "I don't wanna do A, so I'll distract myself with B instead" routine to avoid working on the head and instead gave the model something to protect her modesty with.
Nice basic one piece swimsuit will do for now. I also tinkered with things like hand size and arm/leg length again.

Okay, got the new head mostly done. Just missing ears at the moment. Much happier with how this one is turning out.
Ended up using "the doll head" reference pictures off google. Its still got some rough spots here and there, but I'll work those out as I go. I may have to go ahead texture those eyelashes so it'll stop looking so goth. :P
