My current work-around for this issue is to keep geometry I currently do not need to work on in a seperate group which can be hidden with one click after opening the .ac file.
If the menu-item 'select/unselect objects by name' would allow a wildcard character to search for objects with a specific name-suffix one could select and hide any number of objects easily after adding distinct suffix like '_HIDDEN'.
I'm all for Group/Object visibility settings stored within the .ac file.
