I think the easiest way in this case is to change the *.ac file with an editor.
Just add under the line AC3Db for example:
MATERIAL "ac3dmat12" rgb 1.00 1.00 1.00 amb 1.00 1.00 1.00 emis 0.20 0.20 0.20 spec 0.50 0.50 0.50 shi 50 trans 0
