Well, a lot is going to be application specific. I own both gameSpace and AC3D and while they both work with 3D primitives, such as cylinders and spheres, the way they go about it is totally different.

If you don't own 3DS Max and can't afford it (it can get well over $300 with student discount), stick with AC3D.
