it depends on what your modeling
its normaly good to use a refrence image when modeling, so that you get perpotions correct. its not a law or anything to make a front and side view of every model you make. :wink: |

I do technical illustrations so my work has to (kinda) look like a certain item when I am done. I use scans and digital photos as a backround and some times as textures.

I don't all the time, mostly when I do I'm practicing a technique. I constantly challenge myself with freestyle 3d modeling, I feel it's the best way to get some sort of creativity out of me.
