Default Corners and Short Cuts

Hi All

Wondering about 2 things...

1. Rounded edges on cubes - I know I can divide the faces of a cube a few times and the subdivide and commit to get rounded edges - but that gives me a lot of extra surfaces - and the corners are too big.... Is there a way to get a tight rounded corner without all the extra polys...?

2. This on OSX Mac - is there a way to set up a shortcut for "File / Export / X-Plane 8" - and use the same name as the .ac only .obj - and say yes to Replace. I do this many many times I a day and would be great to just shortcut it...

I think subdivide is the probably the best way to make a rounded cube but try it again and start with a block say 8x8x8 (or use Surface->divide 3 times on a basic cube), then subdivide. This will make the corners "tighter". If there are large areas where you want to reduce the surfaces, select an area and use Surface->Combine to make it a single polygon.

For a quicker export access, show Files->Export-selection - this can stay open. Set the selection-type to All, select the export-type, browse to set your filename, and you can click the Export button every time you want to save.

For a shortcut, you can put this text in a file (e.g. keys.tcl) in the scripts folder:

bind . <Control-e> "ac3d exporter_select_file OBJ8Save"

This should work for control-e but you can edit that as desired, some keys are already used of course.

Thanks Andy - that Export Selected works well. Is there anyway it could use the .ac filename automatically as the .obj filename?
(and Happy New Year)

HNY!

I'm not sure what you mean. You can change the filename to anything you like.

Yes - I suppose this may be script territory but I was wondering if it would be possible to gave the output .obj file name automatically match the .ac file name (ie without changing the file name manually) - scripting?
