Default Boolean Subtract Glitch/Error

Hello. I have a cube and a cylinder. The cylinder is in the middle of the cube and the top is sticking out above the cube and the bottom is sticking out underneath. When i use subtract, a hole is made within the cube, which is what i want, except when i texture the area, the are these weird rectangular shapes surrounding the cylinder subtraction. What should i do?

I have also tried this with a sphere and no luck.
