Default File Name not shown !

AC3D is not providing the file name in the title bar.

Working with several .obj files out of windows explorer - you will need to save or export them later - may become a pain, because you lose orientation in building textures and subgroups of objects, while working simultaneously in more than 1 ac3d-windows.

so which file do i work on right now? no idea.
bad luck if you save it under a wrong name, wich overrites the other file.

The titlebar should be updated every time a .ac file is saved.

Which version of AC3D are you running, and o whch platform (Windows, Mac Linux)?

has been in every version since, and i am refering to .obj format, which is standard format for X-Plane.
Procedure is: open .obj - work on it - export it back to its original .obj name and destination.

currently i use v 8.080 Windows10. i don't think i will go for any upgrades, not expecting improvements.

Another issue is: AC3D does not save object attributes (night textures, pbr materials etc.) when exporting into .obj.

This cost a lot of additional work outside ac3d, and a permanent watch for not losing important stuff.
sample work with .obj:

The filename will only change when you save a .ac file. Although AC3D can import X-Plane obj files, you should always save and keep the .ac files, and only export OBJ when you need to. That way, stuff will be preserved.

You are using AC3D 8.0 and the current release is 8.6, which is 64 bit and has a later X-Plane plugin. From AC3D 8 to 8.6 there are a considerable number of changes and fixes.

not so happy with the answer (which i expected that way, almost word by word)

to clarify:
if i open an .obj (im not "importing" it) the working process remains in .obj format.
changing it into an .ac and export it then into .obj again is not only weird, it loses the attributes anyway. AC3D seems not able to hold other than 1 texture information.
It will lose the .LIT, the .NML, the specular, the blend, the RGB, everything.
Opening the saved.obj file with a text editor is best way to verify.

Anyway, whether you open or import content, the file name to show in the title bar is not a thing you wanna miss when working on complex aircraft. I can not think of any valid excuse.

as mentioned earlier, i am not going to purchase another "upgrade" of AC3D for 3 reasons:
1. These are basic issues that should not urge the customer to spend money.
2. from my experience, i don't expect improvements. AC3D has not come with substantial value being added to new versions. I don't think anyone is even developing this tool any further, it doesn't feel like.
So, no considerable changes between versions.
3. Laminar's Ben Supnik said the x-plane plug-in is no longer supported nor will it be updated. That was more than 2 years ago. So i don't think there is a change to that with any version later than the one i already have.

still using AC3D, but my happiness degree never exceeded 60%

If just these and some other downsides weren't there!
