How can I?
I'm in the process of modifying scenery of a Navy base for FSX, and I need some expert advise on how best to achieve something. I want to "cut" the streets out of the mesh polys, and I've been experimenting using the boolean function to do this, but what happens is after I boolean the surface, most of the texture mapping is lost {see attachments}.
1.Is there a better way to do this? 2. Is there a way to trace out the streets and then cut them out rather than creating "boxes" to boolean the surface?{being able to cut around the corners ect..} Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!! AJ Last edited by ajweber; 28th December 2007 at 03:20 PM. Reason: Title change |

Re: Need help!!!
Try to triangulate your "black" surface and see if it has a positive result on your plane (I suppose it's a plane) and its texture.
If you don't want to use the boolean function to cut out your road, you could use Dennis knife plugin to slice your plane so that you end up with a surface you then just have to delete ... You could also do that "manually" (insert vertice / slice surface) but it's more time consuming ... You could also use the "make hole" function (surface menu) ... If you still have a problem with your texture after having cut the road, then just remap your plane ... HTH.

Re: Need help!!!
Another way to do it would be to set your road map as a background image on the Orth menu. Then trace over the roads using the poly tool. Once you've traced all the roads, merge the shapes, then use create ordered surface to connect and fill in any gaps.
Finally, do as luuckyy suggests, and remap the plane after you've finished the geometry. |
