Hi,
I'm trying to recover a model I created with 3DS Max and I'm having trouble with AC3D exporting a proper .3ds file. I have a previous version of my model broken down into .obj files. I import those files into AC3D and then export to a .3ds file and then inport that into 3DS Max. All of the parts of the model export into .3ds from AC3D except one. It compiles fine, but when I try to import it into 3DS Max, Max tells me it's not the correct format. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Try optimising vertices and surfaces first. If that fails, send the offending file to me.

With 3ds there are several issues.
There can't be more than 64,000 polys and/or points or you'll get an error message. The textures can't be more than 8 letters or numbers long. example: black01A.jpg >> this would be ok black002A.jpg >> this would not Material names cannot be more than 8 letters or numbers long. ===== Try exporting from max to the common dae collada format as an alternative. Although for some reason when I use collada my material names all get changed and I often lose mappings. |
