Unhappy AC3D problem on linux with compiz-fusion

I have Mandriva 2008.0, NVidia 8800GTX, and am using the compiz-fusion 3D desktop. When I start ac3d it kills the window decorator and compiz-fusion. I have to logout and login again to get a functioning desktop back. My desktop is set at 1280x960. As ac3d first starts, the window decorator is there for only a brief moment, then it and compiz-fusion crashes and that's it. No error message appear when I start ac3d via CLI.

There is a lot of info in .xsession-errors but I am not able to determine what portion of it applies to ac3d itself.

Have you tried starting 'ac3ds'? If that works, it's likely that your graphics drivers are at fault. Otherwise, you may need some extra libraries downloading for compatibility.
