Default UV Mapping Tutorial Somewhere?

Ok im a bit stumped. Below are examples of where im at in developing an object to import into Second Life.
1. Object Screen Attached File

This image is of an object I created using the line tool.

2. UV Map Screen Attached File

This image is a result of the UV Map from the Front View using the UV Map Tool.

When I try and upload to Second Life this sculpty image it gives me a rather deformed shape cause I know it appears to have gaps/holes in the UV Map. Is there something that can show me how to correct this problem? Thanks!
